Chris Clark

Chris Clark is a professional trombonist by day, and a music/technology/beer geek pretty much all the time.  I share my love of music through The Virtual Trombonist, and through live performances with Valor Brass"The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band, and as a soloist, adjudicator, and educator.  As someone that believes the future of musical communication lies in the live-streamed and recorded media world as much as it does in the traditional performance venue, I strive to keep my community informed through social mediaYouTube, and through my blog and  podcast series.

Educated at the Curtis Institute of Music (BM), the Juilliard School (MM), and Catholic University of America (DMA), I have performed in just about every setting imaginable.  Whether it's performing traditional repertoire of the orchestral world, brand new pieces for chamber ensemble, or commissioning composers with Valor Brass, I have experienced just about every scenario in which a contemporary trombonist might find themselves performing.  Memorable experiences include performances with Simon Rattle, James Levine, Kurt Masur, Wolfgang Sawallisch, Otto Werner-Mueller, Leonard Slatkin, John Williams, Zubin Mehta, David Zinman, Alan Gilbert, Graeme Jenkins, Betty Buckley, Rita Moreno, Joe Williams, Carol Channing, Nell Carter, and Kelly Clarkson.  I have toured almost every state of the US as a member of "The President's Own" U.S. Marine Band, as well as appeared on many of the band's numerous recordings.

In addition to my musical life, I have two Ironman triathlon finishes (IM Lake Placid - 20032004) under my belt.  I have been an active home brewer since 2006, and recently volunteered at a local commercial brewery in Washington, DC, where I had the chance to be part of a fantastic team of brewers.  I am married to Brett Emmerson, a cardiovascular OR nurse.  We have two boys, ages 7 and 3.  When not playing music, you can find me at the beach or hanging out with my family.
